ABOUT

Project TokyoRepop is a fan project aimed to visually improve the 2003 Tokyopop edition of Lupin III.Throughout the years, the only way for Lupin III fans to read the original manga online are through poor scans made approximately 7 years ago. These scans are typically brownish in color, pixelated, and all presented in a two-page format, creating an uncomfortable reading layout for the visually impaired. (Well, pretty much everyone else hates it too...)

Project Tokyopop will instead use scans from the Japanese Aizouban Edition of Lupin III, or best case, colored scans that portray the colors seen in the chapter's original publication in Weekly Manga Action.

The translation will not be tampered with, every dialogue will stay exactly the same as in the original Tokyopop book. Only sound effects and onomatopoeias will have a visual upgrade to enhance the reading experience. This project is not affiliated with TokyoPop nor the Japanese publishing side of the Lupin III manga (Futabasha and Chuokoron-Shinsha).

Where to read

Chapters by Project TokyoRepop will be posted on the Lupin III page on MangaDex and the "Ultimate Lupin III Library" MEGA folder.

FAQs

Q: Who is behind this?
A: A variety of people! The head mod is Peaterookie, and other typesetters that will help me along the way at the moment are Evil Otto and Enygma. Parasite will be working as a translator for things that Tokyopop neglected to translate in their book.
Q: What chapters of Lupin III will be redone?
A: All chapters under the name "Lupin III" published by TokyoPop will be redone. This means all Lupin III chapters and New Adventures (with the exception of the chapters scanlated by Oranges) will get a visual upgrade!
Q: What is TokyoPop?
A: TokyoPop is the former English Licenser for Lupin III and many other manga during the early 2000s. Something happened and they shut down their headquarters in America for a while idk look it up on Wikipedia.
Q: Why won't you retranslate the text along with the visual upgrade?
A: I do not know Japanese and the translators I know do not have the time or drive to translate all of the manga at the moment. Despite my personal issues with the TokyoPop translation, with all the liberties it takes, it is still a piece of Lupin manga history worth preserving.
Q: What is the schedule of uploading?
A: It will likely be inconsistent since this is a passion project operated only by one person (me), a chapter will most likely be done around a month or less. Sometimes I will take breaks.
Q: When can I get updates on the newest upload?
A: Follow @TokyoRepop on Twitter and Tumblr to get notified on when a new chapter comes out!
Q: Are you a chum?
A: I am quite a chummy chum.
